Three things changed. One thing did not.
This category did not get modern all at once, and the parts that moved are easy to name.
| What moved | Before | Now | What it made possible |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transcription | Expensive, and wrong often enough that nobody trusted it | Cheap and accurate enough to run on every call | Recording everything stopped being a budget decision |
| Understanding | Keyword triggers on a list somebody wrote in advance | Models that read what the sentence meant | A tool can tell a brush-off apart from a real approval problem |
| Where help appears | A report, a dashboard, a Friday review | A side panel inside the call, visible only to the rep | The rep can act on it before the call ends |
| The coaching loop | Manager reviews calls weekly | Manager reviews calls weekly | Nothing. This is the row that did not move. |
That last row is the one worth sitting with. Analytics got dramatically better, and the gap between a rep saying the wrong thing and anyone finding out is still measured in days at most companies. More dashboards do not shorten it. Moving the help into the call does.
Four claims on modern homepages, and the question that tests each one
Every vendor here says a version of the same four things. None of the four is a lie, and none of the four tells you what you are buying. These questions do.
| The claim | Ask instead | Why the answer matters |
|---|---|---|
| "AI-powered coaching" | When does the rep see it? | AI describes how the output was made, not when it arrives. A model that writes a brilliant scorecard on Friday is AI-powered and useless on Tuesday at 14:32. |
| "Real-time" | Real-time against which clock, the buyer or the manager? | Some vendors mean the line appears while the objection is still in the air. Others mean faster than a manager review. Hyperbound's own AI coaching page describes real-time feedback as arriving without waiting for a manager's review, which is the second clock.Source: Hyperbound, checked 21 Sep 2026. | "Personalized at scale" | Who writes the content, your team in advance or the model from the sentence just spoken? | A battlecard triggered by a keyword is material your enablement team wrote last quarter. It is useful, and it is not personalized to this buyer. The difference shows up the first time somebody objects in words nobody predicted. |
| "Conversation intelligence" | Does it hand me a transcript or a line to say? | Both are legitimate products with different buyers. A transcript is for the manager and the revenue org. A line is for the rep, alone, mid-sentence. Teams buy the first and are surprised the second never showed up. |
The three eras, and who is still selling each one
Sorting this market by era beats sorting it by feature list, because era predicts price, buyer and failure mode all at once.
| Era | The product | Fails when |
|---|---|---|
| The binder | Objection scripts in a document, a wiki, a battlecard folder. Training happens in a room and the material waits to be opened. | Nobody opens it on a live call. Not because reps are lazy. There is no time to read during a sentence. |
| The recording | Every call captured, transcribed, scored. The manager gets clips, the org gets deal boards. Gong, Chorus, Jiminny, Avoma, Fathom and Otter live here. | The rep already knows the call went badly. The gap between the mistake and the feedback is still days, and the deal closed or died inside that gap. |
| The live line | Help composed during the call from what the buyer actually said, rendered where only the rep sees it. Cresta, Balto and Objeq live here, with very different plumbing. | The call does not play anywhere the tool can hear it, or the team's problem was never objections in the first place. |
Worth saying plainly: era three does not replace era two. They answer different questions, and plenty of teams should run one of each. The full category map, including how prompt-and-script tools differ from composed live help, is on call coaching software. Nine tools ranked by that one clock are on top sales coaching software.
What it costs, and who is willing to say
Most of this category hides its price behind a demo form, which is worth knowing before you spend three weeks in a buying process. Here is what is actually published, with the source and the date we checked it. Where a vendor publishes nothing, we say so instead of printing a third-party estimate as if it came from the vendor.
| Tool | Era | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| Objeq | The live line, browser | $99 Starter, $149 Pro per seat per month. No seat minimum, 3-day trial.Source: Objeq pricing, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Gong | The recording | No rate card. Third-party reporting: roughly $1,360-$1,600 per user per year plus a $5K-$50K platform fee.Sources: Gong pricing page (structure) · Avoma: Gong pricing (figures), checked 30 Aug 2026. Full comparison: Objeq vs Gong |

Read the spread, not the rows. Era two runs from free to five figures a year. Era three runs from a published $99 a seat to a six-figure contract. Price tells you who the vendor sells to. It does not tell you which era you are buying, and the word modern on the homepage tells you neither.
Where modern does not matter
Three honest cases, because a page that only argues for the newest thing is a brochure.
Nobody reviews calls at all today. Buy era two and stop reading. Anything beats nothing, the review habit is the cheaper half to build, and a free tier will tell you inside a month whether your team will actually use it.
Your calls do not play in a browser tab. A native softphone or a desktop contact center client has no tab for a browser tool to hear. That is a hard limit, not a roadmap item. Buy the contact center side of era three.
Your reps are not losing deals to objections. If calls die from bad targeting or a broken offer, live objection help will whisper beautifully at the wrong prospects. Fix the list first, then come back.
How Objeq does the live half
It is a Chrome extension side panel. It hears the call through the browser tab, works out which of five fears the buyer just expressed, and writes one line on the rep's screen to say next. Only the rep sees the panel. It works on Meet, Zoom, Teams and browser dialers, in Hebrew and English, and it is built to stay quiet through discovery, small talk and the "can you hear me?" minute rather than assisting continuously. The rep decides whether to use the line. Mechanics are on how it works.
The five fears are not a marketing frame, they are the map the engine runs on: The Gap, The Puzzle, The Loop, The Scar and The Alibi. Fourteen objections with the first line to say back to each are on sales objection handling.

Questions people actually ask
What is a modern sales coaching platform?
One where the help reaches the rep before the call ends. That is the only part of this category that genuinely changed. Everything else that calls itself modern kept the 2015 clock: record, transcribe, score, review next week. Still a useful product, and the word modern is doing no work in it. The test is one question: does anything change for the rep during the call?
Is real-time sales coaching the same thing?
Not automatically, because real-time gets measured against two different clocks. Some vendors mean the line appears while the objection is still in the air. Others mean faster than a human manager, which can still be hours after the call ended. Ask which clock before you compare prices. Both are honest uses of the phrase and only one helps the rep who is currently losing the deal.
What changed since 2015?
Transcription got cheap and accurate. Models moved from keyword triggers to reading meaning. Help moved into the call itself, on a screen the buyer never sees. What did not change is the coaching loop: the manager still reviews weekly and the rep still finds out on Friday what went wrong on Tuesday.
How much does it cost?
Most of the category publishes nothing, which is a signal about who it sells to. The numbers that are public are in the pricing table above, each with its source and the date we checked it. Objeq publishes $99 Starter and $149 Pro per seat per month with no seat minimum.
Do we still need call recording if we have live coaching?
Usually yes, and they are not competing purchases. Recording answers a manager question: which deals are at risk and what does a good call sound like here. Live help answers a rep question: what do I say to the sentence just said to me. Objeq sells no transcript, no archive and no CRM sync, so it does not replace the recorder.
Prices and product claims on this page are sourced and dated in the tables above. Objeq's own prices come from our pricing page. Competitor figures the vendor does not publish are marked as third-party reporting and linked to the reporting source. Nothing here is estimated.
