The three jobs, and how to tell them apart in a demo
Every vendor in this category will say they coach calls. Ask one question instead of reading the homepage: when does the rep get the help? The answer sorts the entire market into three piles, and the piles have different prices, different buyers and different failure modes.
| The job | When the help arrives | What lands on the screen | Who it is really for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Record and review | After the call. Hours to days. | A transcript, a score, a deal board, a clip a manager can share | The manager and the revenue org |
| Prompt and script | During the call, from a list written in advance | The next checklist item, a compliance line, a scripted rebuttal | The contact center floor, on a telephony platform |
| Live objection help | During the call, composed from what was just said | One line to say back to the sentence the buyer actually used | The rep, alone, mid-sentence |
The third column is the real difference and it is easy to miss. A scripted prompt was written before your buyer spoke. A composed line was written because of what your buyer said. Both appear during the call, and they are not the same product.
Record and review is the biggest pile, and the one people mean by default
Gong, Chorus, Avoma, Otter and most of the market do this job. The call is recorded, transcribed, scored and filed. A manager finds the moment the deal turned, clips it, and coaches from it. Done seriously this works, and for a revenue org that needs forecasting, deal boards and pipeline visibility there is nothing else to buy. We say so plainly on our own comparison pages: if you need enterprise revenue intelligence, Gong is the benchmark and we do not try to replace that layer.
Its limit is arithmetic, not quality. Coaching that arrives after the call can only help the next call. If a rep hears the same objection forty times a week, post-call review fixes it on attempt forty-one at best, and only if someone actually reviewed the call. In most teams the reviewing is the part that quietly stops happening.
Prompt and script coaches the floor, and it is bought as a deployment
Balto and Cresta live here. The agent gets a checklist, a compliance alert, or a knowledge-base answer surfaced at the moment the system spots a trigger. It is built for volume, it plugs into telephony platforms like Five9, Genesys and NICE, and it is genuinely live, so the usual "the other one only works afterwards" line does not apply to it.
What it is not is small-team software. Cresta publishes no per-seat price at all; the only public numbers attached to it are $150,000 twelve-month AWS Marketplace contracts for Agent Assist, with overage at $1.50 a call.Sources: Cresta Agent Assist · Quiq: Cresta pricing 2026, both checked 14 Sep 2026. Full breakdown on our Objeq vs Cresta page. If you run 200 agents on a native softphone, this is your pile and you should stop reading here. If you have five reps on Meet, these vendors will not sell to you.
Real-time call coaching is the narrowest pile, and it splits by where the call plays
Real-time call coaching means the help lands while the buyer is still talking. That is the whole definition, and it is worth being strict about it, because plenty of post-call products describe their overnight summary as real time. The honest test: could the rep act on it before the call ends?
Inside the real-time pile the split is not features, it is plumbing. Contact center real-time sits inside your telephony stack and coaches agents at scale. Browser real-time hears the call through the Chrome tab it is playing in, which is where Meet, Zoom, Teams and browser dialers live. Objeq is the second kind: a Chrome extension side panel, one seat, no minimum, published price. The trade is honest in both directions, and the limit cuts against us: if your calls do not play in a browser tab, Objeq cannot hear them. Hard limit, not a roadmap item.
The longer version of this split, with the four questions that decide whether a live tool survives contact with your calls, is on real-time sales coaching software. If you want the ranked list rather than the category map, that is the best real-time sales coaching tools of 2026, and the wider field is ranked by wait time on top sales coaching software.
Call coaching software for inside sales reps
Inside sales is where the three piles separate most violently, because of volume. A field rep runs four calls a week and can genuinely learn from a recording of each one. An inside sales rep runs forty and hears the same six objections on repeat. The failure is not that the rep does not know the answer to "it's too expensive". The failure is that the answer has to arrive in the two seconds before the silence gets awkward, and the recording arrives on Friday.
That is why high-volume teams tend to need the live pile and buy the review pile, then wonder why nothing changed. The specific tools for the high-volume case, and when each one is the wrong pick, are on inside sales coaching software. And if what your reps are stuck on is the objections themselves rather than the tooling, start with the 14 objections and the first line to say back, which costs nothing and can be read before tomorrow's calls.
What a live line actually contains, and why five is the whole list
Composing a line mid-call only works if the machine can name what it just heard. Objeq sorts every objection into five families, and these are not a marketing grouping written for a landing page. They are a contract inside the product: the same five tags the live engine emits, the extension renders and the database stores. Each one is defined by a sentence the buyer never says out loud.
| Family | What the buyer never says out loud | What it sounds like instead |
|---|---|---|
| The Gap | "I don't know if that distance is worth it." | Price, cost, cheaper elsewhere, budget |
| The Puzzle | "One piece is missing and I can't tell you which." | "Send me information", missing feature, references |
| The Loop | "I'll manage a while longer like this." | "Not a good time", "we're happy with how we do things" |
| The Scar | "I've tried before, and I don't want to be that person again." | "We tried something like this and it didn't work" |
| The Alibi | "I don't want this to be on me." | "I have to talk to my boss", "I need to think about it" |
A hundred objections is an unlearnable list; five is a skill, which is the part a rep can carry without software. Longer version: the five fear families behind every sales objection. The two that cost the most money in practice are "it's too expensive" and "I need to think about it", and they are not the same problem wearing different words.
What it costs, and who is willing to say
Most of this category hides its price behind a demo form. That is worth knowing before you spend three weeks in a buying process, so here is what is actually published, with the source and the date we checked it.
| Tool | Pile | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| Objeq | Live objection help, browser | $99 Starter, $149 Pro per seat per month. No seat minimum, 3-day trial.Source: Objeq pricing, checked 23 Sep 2026 |
| Gong | Record and review | No rate card. Third-party reporting: roughly $1,360-$1,600 per user per year plus a $5K-$50K platform fee.Sources: Gong pricing page (structure) · Avoma: Gong pricing (figures), checked 30 Aug 2026 |
| Cresta | Prompt and script, contact center | No per-seat price. Public AWS Marketplace listings: $150,000 for a 12-month Agent Assist for Voice contract up to 100,000 calls.Sources: Cresta Agent Assist · Quiq: Cresta pricing 2026, checked 14 Sep 2026 |
| Otter | Record and review | $16.99 Pro, $30 Business per user per month. Live coaching sits on Business and up.Source: Otter pricing, checked 22 Sep 2026. Full comparison: Objeq vs Otter |
We are three to six times the price of Otter and a fraction of the price of the other two, and both of those facts are on our comparison pages in the same words. Where a vendor does not publish a number we say so and link the third-party source, instead of printing a figure as if it came from the vendor.
The one question that picks the pile for you
Skip the feature matrix. Answer this instead: when your rep says the wrong thing, how long until anyone knows?
If the answer is "never, nobody reviews calls", your problem is process and the review pile will fix it, because anything beats nothing. If the answer is "next week, in the pipeline review", you already have the review pile and adding more of it will not help. If the answer is "the deal is already dead by then and we can name the six sentences that killed it", you are in the live pile, and the only remaining question is whether your calls play in a browser tab or in a telephony platform.
Where Objeq is the wrong tool
Three cases, stated plainly, because a category page that only argues for itself is a brochure. Calls on a native softphone or a desktop contact center client: there is no browser tab, so there is nothing for us to hear. Buy the contact center pile. You need forecasting, deal boards and pipeline analytics: that is not what a live side panel does, and Gong does it better than anyone. Your reps are not losing deals to objections: if calls die from bad targeting or a broken offer, live objection help will whisper perfectly at the wrong prospects. Fix the list first.
How Objeq does the live job
It is a Chrome extension side panel. It hears the call through the browser tab, works out which of the five fears the buyer just expressed, and writes one line on the rep's screen to say next. Only the rep sees the panel. It works on Meet, Zoom, Teams and browser dialers, in Hebrew and English, and it is designed to stay quiet through discovery, small talk and the "can you hear me?" minute rather than assisting continuously. The rep decides whether to use the line. The mechanics are on how it works.

Questions people actually ask
What is call coaching software?
Any tool that watches a call and tries to make the person on it better at the job. In practice it is three products: record and review, prompt and script, and live objection help. They have different prices, different buyers and different failure modes, and buying the wrong one of the three is the most common mistake in this category.
What is real-time call coaching?
Help that arrives during the call rather than in a report afterwards. The strict test is whether the rep could act on it before the call ends. Inside real time there are two plumbing choices: contact center products that sit in your telephony stack, and browser products that hear the call through the Chrome tab. If your calls do not play in a browser tab, a browser product cannot hear them.
What is the best call coaching software for inside sales reps?
Depends which half of the problem you have. Deals dying for reasons nobody can name means you need post-call analytics. Reps freezing on the same six objections forty times a week means more recordings will not help, because the rep already knows what went wrong. The tools for the high-volume case are ranked on inside sales coaching software.
How much does call coaching software cost?
Almost nobody publishes a price, which is itself the answer. The numbers that are public are in the pricing table above, each with its source and the date we checked it. Objeq publishes $99 Starter and $149 Pro per seat per month with no seat minimum.
Does call coaching software record the call?
The record and review kind exists to record, so yes, and that carries consent obligations in most places. The live kind does not have to. Objeq listens to the tab audio to work out what was just said and writes a line for the rep, and only the rep sees the panel. Ask about recording and retention before the demo, not after.
Prices and product claims on this page are sourced and dated in the table above. Objeq's own prices come from our pricing page. Competitor figures that the vendor does not publish are marked as third-party reporting and linked to the reporting source. Nothing here is estimated.
